That’s why we are happy to let you know about Subaru’s Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) as an affordable eco-friendly alternative, now available in the Legacy, Outback and Forester!
WHAT IS A SUBARU PZEV?
The Subaru PZEV is a no-compromise eco-friendly vehicle that gives you piece of mind when it comes to sustainability. Although it runs on regular unleaded fuel, the Subaru PZEV has clear smog-reducing benefits compared to non-PZEV vehicles, included hybrids, diesels and other alternative fuel vehicles.
It is the cleanest-running gasoline-powered vehicle on the market and was developed to meet the most stringent air quality standards in North America (that’s in California for those trivia buffs out there). In order to be labeled as a PZEV, a vehicle must meet the Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle tailpipe standard and have zero evaporative emissions. Mother Earth loves it!
HOW IT WORKS
Subaru PZEVs reduce smog-forming emissions with four modifications, leading to less impact on the environment when you start your ignition.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER
The passageways in a PZEV converter have a larger and finer mesh to reduce emissions. The mesh changes the molecular structure of the harmful emissions and releases fewer pollutants into the air.
FUEL INJECTORS
PZEV fuel injectors prevent leakage of evaporative emissions with a tighter seal.
DUAL-FILTRATION AIR INTAKE
In a PZEV, the air intake has a charcoal canister to absorb evaporative hydrocarbon emissions. Conventional vehicles don’t have this feature, so unburned gas fumes can escape through the air intake after the engine is shut off.
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE
The worst emissions happen with cold start conditions, and we know all about those here. The Engine Control Module in PZEVs has been altered. delaying the ignition timing and making the exhaust gasses hotter, which kicks everything into gear faster.
