Subaru debuted a rugged new look at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) with the unveiling of the new 2020 Subaru Outback. Sporting new features never seen before with Subaru, the 2020 Outback emphasizes all of the traits Subaru brings to the table, such as Symmetrical full-time all-wheel drive and EyeSight driver-assist system, as standard features.

An Adventurous Design

Remaining true to Subaru’s “Dynamic x Solid” philosophy, the 2020 Outback integrates all that and more in its “Active x Tough” concept that expresses both athleticism and strength. Poised for adventure, the exterior boasts pronounced wheel arches, highlighted by wheel arch mouldings that improve both form and function, which largely contribute to the Outback’s rugged and capable appearance.

The 2020 Outback’s interior revolutionizes the Subaru driving experience with the available tablet-style vertically mounted 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This model also supports SUBARU STARLINK Connected Services which uses voice-response technology and live assistance for features such as Advanced Automatic Collision Notification in the event of a collision, SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance and Concierge Service. The vehicle’s interior only gets better as the 2020 Outback cabin is more spacious than ever. The width between the wheel housings has been expanded, as has the opening width of the rear cargo area.

Enhanced Safety

Optimized for strong, reliable safety, the 2020 Outback is celebrated to be 70 percent stiffer in both torsional- and front-suspension rigidity, and 100   stiffer in both front lateral flexural- and rear subframe rigidity compared to the previous model’s platform. An increase in high-quality material in the vehicle’s structure contributes to a body that absorbs over 40 percent more energy in front/side crashes than the outgoing model.

Powerful Turbo

The 2020 Outback offers two engine options: a 2.5-litre SUBARU BOXER that produces 182 horsepower and 176 lb.-ft. of torque, or the turbocharged 2.4-litre SUBARU BOXER that produces 260 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque. When equipped with the turbocharged engine, the next-generation Outback is capable of towing 1,590 kg (3,500 lbs.).

And so much more…

If the rugged design, optimized safety and turbocharged engine weren’t enough, the 2020 Outback boasts a range of additional features that enhance the owner’s experience. New to Subaru, the new-generation Outback cargo area is easier than ever thanks to an available hands-free power tailgate.

Designed with all passengers in mind, the 2020 Outback also features thicker glass and insulating inner film for the windshield and front-door glass for reduced noise, vibration and harshness.

Handling of the 2020 Outback has never been easier with the availability of Subaru’s innovative DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System which uses facial recognition software to identify signs of driver fatigue or driver distraction. This exclusive system works fluidly alongside Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite, which includes features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, lane-keep assist, lead vehicle start alert and more.

The collection of standard and available features in the new 2020 Subaru Outback make it a leading vehicle for safety, technology, efficiency and style. This model is set to go on sale in Fall 2019 with pricing to be announced at a later date.
