When is the last time you opened a map in the car (and on your smartphone doesn’t count)? With GPS systems being the popular choice for navigation, who needs a road map? Whether you have a Subaru Navigation System or a portable GPS, here are some tips and tricks to get you from Point A to Point B without any trouble at all.
Updating your device will make sure you always have the most recent software, services and maps available. Having the latest software and services will make your navigation experience easier; they repair any bugs that may exist in older versions and solve problems you may not even know you had. And updated maps ensure that the always changing landscape doesn’t stop you from reaching your destination.
One of the best things about GPS systems (besides making sure you never get lost, of course) is how customizable they are. Change views to suit how you read maps, with 3D and 2D options and north or the direction in which you are travelling at the top of the screen. Create your own points of interest and save favourite addresses to make naviagation easier. Some systems even allow downloadable voices, cars and customized colours to make your GPS look and sound exactly how you want to suit your personality.
DON’T JUST RELY ON YOUR GPS
Don’t forget that your navigation system is reliable, but anything can happen. Construction happens, batteries die, GPS satellite signals fail and maps may be outdated. Don’t forget about these limitations and consult a map before you leave and watch road signs for additional directions, just in case.
