GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY WITH THE SUBARU RUNNING SERIES

Subaru-of-niagara

It’s no secret that we love cars at Subaru of Niagara, but did you know that we’re also big fans of the oldest form of transportation? That’s right, we love running. In fact, we love it so much that we’re partnered with our Hamilton colleagues to present the annual Subaru of Hamilton Niagara Running Series.

2014 marks the 15th year of the series, which encompasses a number of local races across the Hamilton and Niagara Regions. This year’s series started in February with the Grimsby Half Marathon and Family Day 3K & 10K, followed by the Jordan 5K & 1K in April and the Confederation Park 5K & 1K in May. Each race in the series is in support of a local charity, with proceeds from the most recent races benefitting the McNally House Hospice, Red Roof Retreat, and Hamilton/Burlington SPCA, respectively.

Where to participate:

The next races in the Series will be coming this summer, with the Tim Horton’s Peachbud 10k/5k/1K in Grimsby (June 24th) in support of the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital and the Beamsville Bench 5K on July 12, supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grimsby, Lincoln and West Lincoln.

In September, the Series makes a stop in St. Catharines with the Run for the Grapes Half Marathon on the 21st, coinciding with the annual Grape & Wine Festival, a perfect, post-race event for everyone! Funds raised through this Run will be donated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation

The last two races of the series take place in October and November with the Hallowe’en 7K, benefitting Autism Ontario – Hamilton Chapter (October 25th) and the Casablanca Classic in Grimsby on November 8th in support of Wounded Warriors.

How to qualify:

In order to qualify for the Series, runners must participate in a minimum of four of the races above. Participants have the opportunity to win awards in the Series but in the individual races as well. For serious competitive runners, there are three ways to win in the Series. You can earn points related to the races you participate in, your finishing place, and your age category, which extend from under 14 to 70+.

Subaru’s Community Involvement

We like the Series because it helps reinforce the commitment that we share with Subaru Canada to supporting the community we live and do business in. By contributing to and sponsoring events like this we can help ensure that the great people and great organizations in our community can continue their work and spread their positive influence. We love that by sponsoring the Running Series, we’re not only helping some great organizations, but also promoting active lifestyles and fitness for Canadians.
