Call to Runners – Subaru’s Grimsby Iron Girls 5-km Looking for Runners

guelph-i-hardware

Do you want to get some exercise and support a great cause all at the same time? Well, you can easily do that, as there are still spots available for the Subaru Grimsby Iron Girl 5-km run on Saturday, August 6. The Subaru Iron Girl women’s triathlon has been an annual event in Grimsby for the past 3 years, and new this year is the 5-km run. Taking place the day before the triathlon, the 5-km running race will raise money for McNally House Hospice. The Hospice is a residential setting that provides 24-hour specialized palliative care, free of charge, to people living with a terminal illness, as well as those in their life circle.

While the triathlon has continued to grow in popularity, already selling-out for this year (for the 3rd consecutive time), the addition of the 5-km race gives more women a chance to participate for a great cause, and for the event to raise even more funds for the McNally House.

The 5-km race on August 6 will kick-off at 3:00pm from Grimsby’s Nelles Beach park, which will also double as the finishing location. Registration for the 5-km race will open at 1:00pm, with a kids race following shortly after, at 2:30pm. While there has been a good response to the 5-km race so far, the event is still looking for more women to run for the cause. There is also a challenge that has been put out by the organizers for residents to raise money for the McNally House. Anyone who makes a donation of $100 or more to the charity before July 25, will get to run in the race for free!

There also will be multiple prizes handed out for competitors amongst the different age categories. In the past 3 years, the Subaru Grimsby Iron Girl has raised over $75,000. We have no doubt that the community will come together once again in the name of a great cause and raise even more funds!
