The 2023 Subaru Legacy continues its streak with the TSP+ designation marking its 17th year in a row as an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK (TSP) or higher winner. The 2023 Outback follows closely behind, achieving a TSP or higher for its 14th consecutive year. Both models received a refresh for the 2023 model year, consisting of new looks, trim levels, and in-vehicle technology. IIHS noted the standard front crash prevention systems in both models earned superior ratings in the two-required tests.

The 2022 WRX gains a TOP SAFETY PICK+ when equipped with the Subaru Performance Transmission (SPT), as all SPT models come standard with Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technologies. On top of these driver assist features, the IIHS noted its good-rated LED projector headlights.

To earn either of the Institute’s two awards this year, a vehicle must earn good ratings in six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraint tests. It must also be available with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both the vehicle-to-vehicle and daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

To date, Subaru has earned more TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards than any other brand since 2013.
